A touch of colour for Volgersweg in the Oststadt district! The shopping street leading from the central station to the Oststadt district has been given a new highlight as litter bins have been transformed into works of art. The newly embellished bins were installed by two members of staff from Hannover’s street cleaning service.
The project was initiated and implemented by shop owners on the Volgersweg, affectionately known by the locals as Lindenstraße (Linden or Lime Street) after a popular German TV series. Along with the residents of the street, the Business Promotion Service of the state capital Hannover and aha, the waste management service of the Hannover region, also participated in the project.
Thanks to their vibrant, colourful designs, the previously drab litter bins provided by aha have been transformed into absolute eye-catchers and really add sparkle to the shopping street. ‘We were delighted to support the project, and we’re happy that aha has been able to help enhance the appeal of the Volgersweg,’ says Mathias Quast, Head of Hannover’s street cleaning service.
The motifs on the litter bins were created by artist Arsen Nasibulin, who was previously involved in designing the tunnel under Berliner Allee. He subsequently turned his attention to the Volgersweg litter bins as part of the project. The surfaces of the litter bins were first roughened and then painted by the artist with several layers of acrylic varnish. After the newly painted bins were installed, the artist signed his works of art in their new location.
