Enjoy the diverse facettes of Hannover's shopping streets, markets and districts.
Hannover is green and at the same time colourful, diverse and unspoilt. Shopping in Hannover starts centrally at Ernst- August-Platz. While Galerie Louise offers upmarket fashion and fine dining, the Ernst-August-Galerie opens its doors to everyone with modern urban lifestyle. Besides the large range of shops in Hannover, the pedestrian zone is one of the most popular shopping strips in Germany: Cross the Kröpcke and head into the alleys of the Old Town, where you will find small boutiques, cosy cafés, quaint pubs and first-class restaurants.
A few metres further on, you can relax in one of the cafés on the promenade along the banks of the Leine. Every Saturday from March through October, Germany’s oldest flea market invites you to a stroll for vintage pieces, antiquities, books, jewellery, and furniture.
A special highlight at the banks of the Leine is the brand new Leine Welle where surfers practice their skills on their boards. Walking in the direction of the market hall, you can already smell the delicious varieties of cuisines from all around the world. Fresh food, wine and socializing await you for a lunch or shopping at the butcher.
Aside from the city centre, Hannover's iconic districts offer a relaxed attitude to life: hip shops, trendy cafés, street markets, culture beyond the mainstream, street art worth seeing and graffiti can be found here. A special tip is the district of Linden, where the Limmer Straße and Lindener Marktplatz (market square) are bustling with colourful life. But also List, Nordstadt and Südstadt convince with their individual charm and seem to be lovable districts for families and students.
