A beach club with a magnificent panorama over the rooftops of the Old Town, market squares with casual cafés, craft beer bars and legendary clubs where Grand Prix winner Lena once danced and where Fury in the Slaughterhouse and the Scorpions began their careers: Hannover has many cool places for young people who are visiting the city. In the bustling centre of the state capital of Lower Saxony, people have always arranged to meet at the historic Kröpcke clock – or “under the horse’s tail” – i.e. at the equestrian statue in front of the central railway station. This is where the main shopping streets converge and the perfect starting point for an extensive shopping tour.

Follow the “Red Thread” through the city

The “Red Thread” is a red line painted on the pavements which guides you to the main places of interest in Hannover. A compact brochure is available to help you plan your own individual tour: this means you can take a break at one of the tempting ice cream parlours whenever it suits you without missing out on anything. A trip up to the top of the New Town Hall in the parabolic elevator is an absolute must, as it promises a breathtaking view over the green city. Guided city tours, for instance on an hop-on hop-off double-decker bus are also a good way to gain a first impression.

Event highlights

Traditional meets modern at the world’s largest Marksmen’s Fair in July when hundreds of thousands enjoy a carefree time on the fairground rides, in the beer tents and watching the traditional Marksmen’s Parade through the city centre. Maschsee Lake Festival at the beginning of August conjures up a unique maritime atmosphere in the heart of the city and is also Lower Saxony’s largest funfair. It lasts for 19 whole days and features cocktail bars, live music, kids’ entertainment, sporting events and a huge range of culinary treats all around the shores of Hannover’s very own lake.

The long-distance coach station in the city centre gives city tourists, trade fair visitors and above all young people an inexpensive and uncomplicated way to reach Hannover Region.
