Marienburg Castle towers majestically on the south-west slopes of the Marienberg hill, approx. 20 km south of Hannover. Built between 1858 and 1867, the palace is one of the most important monuments of neo-gothic architecture in Germany. Designed as the romantic vision of a gothic palace, it was a birthday present from King Georg V (1819 - 1878) to his wife Queen Marie (1818-1907).
One of the most striking features of the authentically preserved interior of Marienburg Castle is the quality of the craftsmanship. The Queen’s Library is particularly impressive, with its colourful umbrella vault, lancet windows and oak bookcases with intricate carving and fittings.
Various rooms, such as the Knights’ Hall, the King’s Salon and the Library, can be hired for exclusive functions between May and September. The castle’s restaurant, located in the former stables and coach-house, can also be booked for your event.
