One of Germany’s leading cooperative banks, Hannoversche Volksbank has been active in the region for over a century.

After several years of strategic partnership, four cooperative banks merged in 2003 and 2005 to form today’s Hannoversche Volksbank. The combined banks, Volksbank Hannover, Lindener Volksbank, Volksbank Burgdorf-Celle and Volksbank Garbsen, merged in 2019 with Volksbank Hildesheimer Börde.

With the merger of these venerable cooperative banks, Hannoversche Volksbank has grown to over 1,000 employees and more than 80 branch offices. As a cooperative bank supported by its members and customers, it now has around 250,000 customers and half that many members.

In 1860, various guilds founded Hannoversche Volksbank’s forerunner as Vorschußverein in the former Kingdom of Hannover. The bank is the oldest private-sector financial institution in the state capital.

Hannoversche Volksbank is also visible and active in the region outside of its banking business. It has had a partnership since 2005 with the Hannover 96 football club, and has been a co-sponsor of the club since 2008. It is also a regional partner of the TSV Hannover-Burgdorf handball team. On the occasion of its 150th anniversary, the bank established a foundation, Stiftung Hannoversche Volksbank, to support charitable institutions and associations in the region.
