Starting in late November, the Christmas markets in the city and region of Hannover will get everyone into the festive spirit, luring in visitors with the unmistakable scent of fir trees, candles, delicious baked treats and mulled wine. The 400 m2 Wunschbrunnenwald (wishing well forest) will be back, creating a magical atmosphere in the heart of Hannover’s Old Town. If you turn the ring on the wishing well, your dreams will come true – or so the legend goes. In the historical village on the banks of the Leine, craftspeople such as silk-makers, blacksmiths and brushmakers will present their crafts to visitors while jugglers, magicians and mystical figures provide the entertainment. The Ballhofplatz is the traditional location of a firm favourite – the Finnish Christmas village. Here, visitors can enjoy sumptuous smoked salmon and hot Glögi, a mulled berry wine with a magical mixture of spices. Tip: The Christmas markets in the Hannover region also have a lot to offer. On St Nicholas’ Day, the Lichterfest (Festival of Lights) will take place in Neustadt am Rübenberge: Marktstrasse will once again host laser displays, fire artists and walking acts to dazzle visitors.
