Production engineering has been at home in the Hannover region for a long time. For research and production, classical mechanical engineering and tool manufacturing, as well as technical services, Hannover is a leading location for the production engineering sector – both in Germany and worldwide. Its scientific heart is the Hannover Centre for Production Technology (PZH), where the production engineering institutes of Leibniz University Hannover and numerous industrial companies and technology start-ups work and research together under one roof across a space exceeding more than 20,000 square metres. Start-ups and early-stage businesses from the sector can rent office space and work areas at fair prices in the PZH start-up centre, where they can directly benefit from the latest innovations and make optimal use of synergy effects. The Zukunftsfabrik Produktionstechnik start-up and relocation campaign was launched in 2004 was replaced in 2005 by the cross-sector Plug&Work contest.
