Major insurers are prominent in Hannover, including Concordia, VGH, VHV, and the Talanx group, which has established the headquarters for its Hannover Re and HDI-Gerling brands in Hannover. Financial services firms (Swiss Life and Nord/LB) and one of Germany’s biggest savings banks have also made their mark with head offices or branch offices in the city, and private banks such as Bankhaus Hallbaum are also headquartered here.
With around 24,400 employees in 870 businesses, the insurance sector accounts for 4,6% of the total jobs in the Hannover region. Many major insurance providers have their headquarters in the city, including Talanx, Vereinigte Hannoversche Versicherung (VHV), Versicherungsgruppe Hannover (VGH), Concordia Insurance Group, Mecklenburgische Versicherungsgruppe, Wertgarantie Technische Versicherung, and the reinsurers of the Hannover Re group.
Banks have also established themselves in the city. In addition to the headquarters of Nord/LB, Deutsche Hypothekenbank and Lower Saxony’s stock market, Hannover is also home to one of Germany’s biggest savings banks.
Central training and continuing education institutions, such as the Sparkassenakademie, the Berufsakademie für Bankwirtschaft, the Bildungswerk der Versicherungswirtschaft and the interdisciplinary Centre of Excellence for Insurance Studies, ensure there will be enough qualified young people.
